What We Do

The Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories (KHEL) provide approximately 1 million clinical and environmental tests each year to protect the citizens of Kansas and help ensure the quality of statewide laboratory services through certification and improvement programs.

KHEL partners with both the Division of Public Health and the Division of Environment to conduct testing of all kinds, including public water supply testing, newborn screening for all infants born in Kansas, and responding to outbreaks or emergency events.

The Laboratory Improvement Program's certification services provide support and oversight for clinical laboratories, environmental testing laboratories, and breath alcohol testing units throughout Kansas including the training and certification of law enforcement officers.
