As with any emerging technology, Apex’s number-one priority is ensuring that our battery storage projects are built and operated safely. To do so, we implement rigorous testing and monitoring from manufacturing until the facilities are up and running as well as training for the onsite team and local fire departments in case any issues arise.

Building a wind farm requires support from countless local vendors, benefiting area businesses and workers. At Timbermill Wind Near Edenton, NC, wind turbine components manufactured both stateside and globally are staged at Riverbulk Terminal, operated by Stevens Towing Company on the Chowan River. This impressive local hub allows for the efficient transport of wind turbine components via barge from the Port of Morehead City (where they were first delivered by rail and sea) to the project area.

Big news in energy policy: last week, the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 was approved by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. This bipartisan legislation will accelerate the permitting process for energy projects across the country. The biggest gamechanger? The transmission reforms, which will help unlock new transmission capacity in energy-rich regions of the United States, while making the interconnection process more predictable and cost-effective. We look forward to continued discussions on this bill, and applaud members of the Senate Natural Resources Committee for their leadership.

The sun is earth’s most abundant natural resource—it only makes sense that we harness it to generate low-cost, emission-free power. ☀️ And the impact of this renewable source of energy is growing: utility-scale solar farms have reached a total capacity of over 100 GW nationwide, which is enough to power the equivalent of 22 million homes.

Every fall and spring, Apex participates in Miles for Monarchs—an online campaign hosted by Monarch Joint Venture designed to engage participants in personal wellness while supporting monarch butterfly conservation. 🦋 Monarch populations have experienced dramatic declines due to habitat loss, but they still make a 6,000-mile round-trip trek from the Rocky Mountains to Mexico and back—from summer breeding grounds to overwintering locations. To help generate awareness and raise funds for this species and its amazing journey, the Apex team commits to matching the migration mile-for-mile in the summer and fall. Enter Garrick Valverde, cyclist and conservationist extraordinaire. With 1,360 miles contributed over the monthlong summer campaign, he more than doubled the distance of the next runner-up and propelled Apex to second place in the overall leaderboard. In the end, this was just the first leg—Garrick and the team have the #1 spot in our sights for the return trip. 🚴 Learn more about this initiative at: https://lnkd.in/gEZ54TFZ

Three years ago, I started my time with Apex Clean Energy working on the Timbermill Wind Project in the inner banks of North Carolina. I proposed the slightly risky strategy of a provocative billboard, and it worked. What followed was months of hearings to achieve an unprecedented number of local, state, and federal permits, all of which required public comment and participation. Our supporters showed up, every time. Through that, I developed a genuine fondness for the kind, thoughtful people of Chowan County, and a deep respect for our Dream Team local reps (Richard and Win)—proof in and of themselves that different perspectives can come together to create monumental opportunies for communities. The Delta Debacle last week kept me from the exciting, hugely-attended blade signing ceremony and I was so sad not to be there. But, I look forward to making my own trip out to see this incredible achievement made possible by a special, beautiful community. I love this work. #lifeatapex #timbermillwind

As Governor Roy Cooper said, "Clean energy is magic." It truly is. Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Timbermill Wind site in North Carolina, the state's second onshore wind farm. Witnessing the synergy between business and purpose firsthand was incredibly fulfilling. This summer, I’ve had the privilege of leveraging my skills at Apex Clean Energy to drive meaningful progress. Kudos to the project team! #CleanEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #WindEnergy
