Planning is broken. It’s one of the most common complaints I’ve heard from product teams and leaders alike, and even here at Figma, we’ve often struggled with the right way to approach planning. To get some advice, I turned to my friend and mentor, Shishir Mehrotra (CEO of Coda). He’s studied the topic extensively over the years and had stories from companies around the world on creative and effective ways they run planning. We turned these learnings into another talk at Config (our second one together!). Check it out below if you’re interested to learn the many rituals world-class companies use to “unbreak” planning. We also had fun using our tools to plan this talk — we designed our talk in Figma Slides (slides here if you want to remix them: figma.com/@yuhki); and we had a fun Coda to plan it as well (link in the video). Let us know what you think! https://lnkd.in/gfEaX8fv

As a Product Designer working on UI3 at Figma, I just want to say thanks for all of your feedback during our beta. We know some of you haven’t gotten UI3 yet, but it’s coming soon! Here are some improvements we’re working on based on what we’ve heard 👇🏽 Clip Content: The first is out now; we’ve updated the Clip Content control from a dropdown to a checkbox. Constraints: We’re making constraints much more efficient to use. Now, you can toggle on the control and it will display inline, making it much quicker to edit. Resize Modes: Many of you flagged missing pixel values when working with resize modes in Auto Layout. We’re changing these controls so it always shows both the pixel value and resize mode. Layer actions: We’re increasing the number of actions that are shown for a layer and are exploring ways to make sure that important controls like masking and boolean operations are visible when you need them. A few more things: We’re adding library information for components, bringing back frame orientation controls, and making improvements to blend modes, all coming soon. Many of you have given feedback on other areas, especially rulers and the floating panels. We know there’s still room to improve here, and we are working through some ideas. Stay tuned for updates! As always, thank you for all the feedback on UI3. Redesigning a UI can be intimidating, especially for designers. We know redesigns can take some time to get used to, but your feedback is helping us build the best possible experience. Keep it coming! More updates coming soon.
