We’re all about safety here at H&A — not just at work, but always! Since summer is grilling season, here are some safety tips to help you enjoy the season to the fullest: • Keep your utensils and plates clean, even when you’re grilling away from home. • Separate raw and cooked foods and use different cutting board or utensils. • Cook food to safe minimum internal temperature to destroy harmful bacteria. • Keep cold foods cold until ready for the grill. • Keep hot food hot until served. • Refrigerate leftovers promptly in shallow containers and discard food left out for more than two hours (one hour if temperature outside is above 90 degrees). Our staff are always growing their skills. Chris DeVillers and his Northern Drill Services team recently boosted our learning efforts when he connected with H&A’s John Bode and JoAnna Shaw to host a full day of training in drill rig safety, soil classification, sampling techniques, and local #geology of the area. Interns from Bunker Hill CC, UMass Boston, and Dearborn STEM Academy got to join in the fun!

Our very own Katherine Dilawari, P.E., LSP, who serves on the Board of Directors for the Licensed Site Professional Association (LSPA), was one of the professionals from LSPA and NAIOP invited to meet with the Assistant Secretary for Administration, the Department of Revenue, and MassDEP to provide feedback on the Brownfields Tax Credit Program. LSPs are #engineers and scientists licensed by the state to oversee the assessment and cleanup of oil and hazardous materials released into the #environment, and to assist with redevelopment of brownfields sites. The Brownfields Tax Credit program encourages the redevelopment of #brownfields and is an important tool in financing development of contaminated sites. Kate’s work to advance the Brownfield Tax Credit program is just one example of Haley & Aldrich’s advocacy on behalf of our clients.
Along with NAIOP Massachusetts, the LSPA met at the State House today with Assistant Secretary for Administration Mark Fine, leaders from the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, and MassDEP to discuss the Brownfields Tax Credit program. We hope to continue the conversation for the benefit of economic development and environmental protection in the Commonwealth. Ileen Gladstone, P.E., LSP Katherine Dilawari, P.E., LSP James T. Major news for the City of Sherwood — an H&A team won a $5 million EPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant to remediate a former tannery site owned by the city of 20,000 residents, near Portland. Great work to Sarah Sieloff, Jennifer Ann Casler, RG, PG, Heather Good, Laura Hanson, and Daniele Spirandelli, who told Sherwood’s story to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). H&A senior technical expert Bart Eklund knows a lot about vapor intrusion and air quality: Over decades, he’s worked on more than 350 vapor intrusion sites, as well as remediation projects. That hands-on experience gives him a depth of knowledge that few in the field can match. Learn more about Bart: https://lnkd.in/gwZ6M4Uc
