When we think of Olympic athletes, we often picture superhuman strength, relentless dedication, and an unyielding pursuit of excellence. But behind every medal and record-breaking moment, there's a human being with struggles, vulnerabilities, and mental health challenges that deserve to be heard. As more Olympic athletes step forward to share their mental health journeys, they're not just changing the conversation—they're leading it. 🌟 When Olympic champions speak openly about their mental health, it challenges the outdated notion that mental struggles are a sign of weakness. It empowers all of us, athletes or not, to seek help and prioritize our mental well-being without shame. 🌍 The platform and visibility of Olympians are unparalleled. By sharing their stories, they are reaching millions of people worldwide, spreading awareness and encouraging others to take their mental health seriously. 💪 Mental strength is just as important as physical prowess. When athletes discuss their mental health, they redefine resilience—not as the absence of struggle, but as the courage to face it and seek support. 💬 Open dialogue about mental health at the highest levels of sport fosters a culture of support, understanding, and inclusivity. It sets a powerful example for coaches, teammates, and fans to prioritize mental well-being in every aspect of life. At Wondermind, we're committed to creating a world where mental health is talked about as openly as physical health. We applaud the Olympic athletes who are paving the way and reminding us all that it's okay to not be okay—and that reaching out for help is a sign of true strength. 👏

It *can* feel a lot easier to go through life avoiding confrontation (at least in the short term). But if it’s become your default mode, you’re not really doing yourself or anyone else a favor. And, unfortunately, avoiding conflict is pretty much impossible in long-term professional, platonic, or romantic relationships, says licensed therapist Erica Turner, LMFT, founder of Rosewater Therapy. If you’re still struggling to be open about your feels, we’ll explain why that could be and share a few expert-backed strategies for overcoming an allergy to confrontation. Look at you go! Who else is guilty of doomscrolling? 😅 We can’t blame you for doing what Merriam-Webster defines as spending “excessive time online scrolling through news or other content that makes one feel sad, anxious, angry, etc.” It’s something that we’ve all done at one point or another—and though doomscrolling can be a direct route to existential dread, it’s not like we want to torture ourselves! Most of the time we can’t help it. Still, there are plenty of ways you can do less doomscrolling and deal with the emotions that come up when you do. On that note, check out these expert-back tips for what to do when it’s happening to you: https://lnkd.in/gDDFJfpd

Dooooooo lessssssss. Did we just say that... on LinkedIn of all places?! 🤭😎 Yes, yes we did. Because giving yourself a break when things get hard can help you bounce back from failures or missteps quicker than when you try to rise and grind through it. With that in mind, we asked mental health pros how to take care of yourself so you can preserve your mental and emotional resources, maintain perspective, and move the hell on. Despite the decreasing stigma around mental health concerns, many people are still scared to talk about their own mental health at work. 😐 A recent survey found that 2 in 5 employed U.S. adults worry about retaliation or even being fired if they take time off for their mental health or seek mental health care (source: American Psychiatric Association). Sadly that sense of a lingering stigma could be holding people back from getting the care they really need. 😔 Get more mental health facts delivered to your inbox weekly here: https://lnkd.in/ezhKw4-m

We can all agree that self-care and self-compassion are good things that most of us could use more of, right? Cool. And yet! There seems to be a recent trend (on social media, in pop culture, and maybe even in your group chat) where people are self-caring a bit too close to the sun, leaving a scorched trail of social norms, life goals, and basic responsibilities in their wake. 🙃 Here are some signs from the experts that you might be overdoing this whole self-compassion thing: https://lnkd.in/ert66GYy

“We live in a very goals-driven society,” says Zarmina Khan, MEd, RP, a psychotherapist with Bloom Psychology & Wellness. “We go to school, we go to work, we’re expected to grow and accomplish things. We have all these benchmarks of what a ‘successful’ life is supposed to look like.” And when we don’t meet those milestones when and how we want to, of course it can leave us feeling terrible. Whether you’re reeling from a specific mistake or just generally feeling lost or like you aren’t measuring up, here are some therapist-backed tips for shaking that failure feeling and getting back on track: https://lnkd.in/dEmMAR3s

Maybe you missed a work deadline, got too honest with a friend, or experienced a trauma. Now, here you are thinking about it over and over—even though you would very much like to get off this ride right now, please. 🤯 This experience is called rumination, or your brain’s obsessive replay of something pretty damn distressing. Ruminating can kill your mood, wreck your sleep, and impact your ability to get through the day. If you can relate, we spoke to mental health pros who explained more about what ruminating is, why it happens, and what to do about it. Read more here. ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dmb49QSQ
