The only licensed assisted living residence in New York City entirely devoted to Enhanced Memory Care

About us

Back in 1999, something extraordinary happened in New York City. The doors opened to the first and only Assisted Living Community entirely devoted to Memory Care…The 80th Street Residence. Not many communities have such longevity. Over the decades, we’ve seen new buildings go up and the number of home care agencies multiply. The comparison game is real. So how is it that we have made it this far? We do not like change…we love it! What began here as “Memory Care” has evolved into something so much better. Our decision to change was intentional. We worked hard. We studied. We learned that there are well over 100 different types of dementia. Today, we confidently welcome Residents with Lewy Body’s, Parkinson’s, Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s just to name a few.

Sometimes, it is easy to forget you are working when you have the opportunity to consult with this team. What a lovely July I had training with the team from The 80th Street Residence. We focused this month on Teamwork. I am looking forward to seeing what August has in store for us. https://lnkd.in/eXYNYSf4

In-services don't always need to be confined to a classroom and lecture format. At Inspired Memory Care, we believe in the importance of moving around, interacting, and practicing. Recently, we had the opportunity at The 80th Street Residence to enhance our skills through Teamwork training. While maintaining eye contact may seem simple, it's not easy for everyone, and practice helps! We discussed the importance of teamwork and took time to share our team members' strengths. We also explored how easy it can be to miscommunicate with our team members by engaging in drawing activities and practicing active listening. Definitely an unexpected fun activity involved playing with Legos. Working in teams, we used Legos to demonstrate that breaking tasks into steps and dividing responsibilities can make accomplishing goals easier. To further develop our skills, we even incorporated some dance moves to work on our multitasking abilities, highlighting the importance of relying on a team member when overwhelmed with responsibilities. It is always a pleasure to work with The 80th Street team members. They are open to new ideas of learning and practicing their skills as a team.

It was another wonderful evening (May 23) at The 80th Street Residence. This month, our Embodied Lab focused on "Exploring Elder Safety and Well-Being." Highlights included recognizing caregiver burnout and learning how team members can intervene and de-escalate potentially abusive situations involving family members. We also want to give a special shoutout to the Chef at The 80th Street Residence. He always surprises us with the most delicious spread to support the learning environment. Thank you, Chef! If you are interested in joining one of the Embodied Labs, email us at hello@inspiredmemorycare.com. Our next lab, which will embody Harold on Thursday, June 27, will focus on Trauma-Informed Care.

The 80th Street Residence and Inspired Memory Care, Inc recently participated in a first-person immersive training experience that explored the symptoms of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's disease. By embodying some of the daily experiences of those living with these conditions, the teams were able to foster discussions and share tips and resources for caregivers. We always appreciate seeing how Embodied Labs technology is positively impacting teams and those they care for!

On March 28, we gathered with colleagues to simulate some symptoms of Parkinson's disease, fostering discussion and sharing tips, suggestions, and resources for supporting individuals living with this condition. Additionally, we delved into the symptoms of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's disease using Embodied Labs® If you reside in New York City and wish to join us for one of these immersive labs, please contact us via email at hello@inspiredmemorycare.com. Social workers have the chance to earn three contact hours. Special thanks to our host, The 80th Street Residence, for facilitating these valuable experiences.

We Experienced another enlightening evening at The 80th Street Residence with our immersive Embodied Labs program last month while indulging in a delightful spread prepared by the 80th Street Residence's chef. We stepped into the shoes of Frank, a 72-year-old man coping with the profound loss of his wife. Through Frank's perspective, participants were confronted with the harsh realities of social isolation, loneliness, strained family dynamics, declining health, and limited access to essential services. We engaged in guided discussions to uncover the intricate web of interconnected issues and explore innovative interventions, collaborative efforts, and policy initiatives aimed at addressing social isolation among older adults. This month, we will embody Hazel, who is experiencing caregiver burnout. We will have a guided discussion around the risks of burnout for both the caregiver and the care recipient and discover available support resources. If you're interested in joining us for these immersive learning experiences in NYC, please contact us at hello@inspiredmemorycare.com. Don't miss this opportunity to gain insight, empathy, and actionable strategies for providing compassionate care to older adults. Embodied Labs®
