It’s time for Emily Cooper to update her language-learning app, because our favorite American in Paris is headed for a few new European destinations in Emily in Paris Season 4. She’ll do it in two parts, which will be released in August and September, and now you can see brand-new photos from the season.
Creator Darren Star tells Tudum, “Emily finds herself with a busy travel schedule in Season 4 of Emily in Paris. From the French Alps to the piazzas of Rome, viewers will vicariously experience amazing new locations through Emily’s eyes. Expect new characters, a lot more drama, romance, and a whole new language to try and master.”
As you can see in the new photos, this season introduces another new element to Emily’s Paris — namely, winter. Executive producer and director Andrew Fleming tells Tudum, “We’re getting a different textural feel of Paris. It was fun to think about the city in a different way for scenes that are more dramatically oriented, and to see Paris not all sunny and flowery but to see it a little gray and cozier and people in coats and dark skies. It’s just as beautiful during the winter, if not more so.”
Naturally, that includes lots of new layers, both sartorially and culturally. “Emily is really coming into her own, asserting herself, becoming much stronger with a style that is reinterpreting Parisian fashion codes,” costume designer Marylin Fitoussi tells Tudum. “And our motto was obviously to have fun, but to take maximum risks.”
Emily in Paris Season 3 ended on a très dramatic note — with American in Paris Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) learning that her on-and-off flirt buddy/neighbor/chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) is expecting a baby with his on-and-off girlfriend/Emily’s friend Camille (Camille Razat). Thankfully, we’ve gotten new intel about what’s in store for the comedy’s upcoming fourth season.
As announced by Collins and the cast in a video above, the first batch of five episodes will debut Aug. 15, and the second half of the season will follow on Sept. 12.
Collins stars as Emily Cooper, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie Grateau, Ashley Park as Mindy Chen, Bravo as Gabriel, Razat as Camille, Samuel Arnold as Julien, Bruno Gouery as Luc, William Abadie as Antoine Lambert, and Lucien Laviscount as Alfie.
Well, according to the cast in the special date announcement video, words to describe the season include “chaotic,” “heartbreaking,” “adventurous,” “fashionable,” and “revenge.”
After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel’s misbegotten wedding, Emily is reeling. (Wouldn’t you be?) Emily has strong feelings for two men, but Gabriel is on the verge of becoming a father, and ex boyfriend Alfie’s (Laviscount) worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed. Unfortunately, Emily and Gabriel’s chemistry is undeniable as they work together toward a Michelin star, but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they’ve dreamed of.
“These are two characters who are star-crossed lovers,” Star said of Emily and Gabriel in an interview with Tudum for Season 3. “They have a lot of passion for one another. They have things that are getting in their way, but, at the same time, I feel like every season, in a strange kind of way, their relationship deepens.”
Meanwhile at work, Sylvie (Leroy-Beaulieu) is forced to confront a thorny dilemma from her past for the sake of her marriage as the Agence Grateau team navigates personnel shake-ups. And Mindy (Park) and the band are forced to get thrifty when they run out funds preparing for Eurovision.
In a special video unveiled at Tudum: A Global Fan Event in Brazil, Collins promised viewers that Season 4 will be just as eventful as the previous three — and confirmed that her character will go on an Italian adventure. “While Emily’s heart will always remain true to Paris, her life takes some unexpected twists this season. Don’t be surprised to find her on a Roman holiday.”
They didn’t change the name to Emily in Saint-Tropez when she and her girlfriends visited the French Riviera in Season 2, but you have to admit: Emily in Rome has a fun ring to it.
