Major Key Alert: Rhythm + Flow Is Back with DJ Khaled, Ludacris, and Latto

The hitmakers will be tasked with finding the next hip-hop superstar.
    Jan. 18, 2024

Prepare for battle: The hit music competition series Rhythm + Flow is returning for a new season to discover the next generation’s rap superstar.

And who better to guide the contestants than three of the biggest names in hip-hop today? DJ Khaled, Ludacris, and Latto will serve as the judges for Season 2, which is currently in production and slated to premiere later this year. The trio of hitmakers will scour the nation’s hip-hop capitals, where young and hungry artists are ready to prove themselves and compete for a grand prize of $250,000 and the title of hip-hop’s newest star.

But that’s not all. Rhythm + Flow is also assembling a crew of legendary music moguls and industry icons to lend a hand, including Eminem, who will join the series as a special guest judge from a surprise location during the competition’s high-stakes battles. Additional guests, as well as various other challenges, will be announced at a later date.

“We are taking things up a notch with a new cast of global hitmakers in our judges and a new pool of undiscovered artists,” says Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s vice president of nonfiction series. “Hip-hop continues to evolve, so it’ll be thrilling to see Ludacris, Latto, and DJ Khaled mentoring contestants during their journeys, along with legendary guest judges like Eminem providing their own brand of insight and advice. We saw this type of life-changing mentorship play out with past contestants whose musical geniuses reached massive audiences across our global platform.”

Rhythm + Flow set a high bar, as D Smoke, the winner of Season 1, (judged by T.I., Cardi B, and Chance the Rapper) has become a Grammy and NAACP Image Award–nominated artist for his 2020 album Black Habits, in addition to landing a recurring role on the crime drama Mayor of Kingstown. The series’ format has also since been brought to shows in other countries, including France and, most recently, Italy.

“This season features a powerhouse panel of judges, each with a distinct and influential role in hip-hop culture. In this significant moment for the genre, the focus extends beyond the music alone,” add executive producers Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon. “We’re seeking unconventional voices and authentic stories that peel back layers and invite fans to immerse themselves in the contestants’ world as we spotlight the continually evolving spirit of hip-hop.”
