Segen H F Donnie Darko and His Strange Demeanor (Warning Spoilers) In the movie, the main character had very different behavior from all the other characters. He had a prolonged walk compared to everybody else. Whenever he had peculiar thoughts or ideas or did strange things, such as when he burnt the house down, he would have his hoodie up and his head down. He saw this creature who would tell him to do things, and he would always obey him because, as Donny says in the film, he “saved my life.”Often, the setting plays a big part in those moments when he does something weird. Every time the camera was on him, the lighting was always dark. When he would act upon these dark thoughts, the background always had suspenseful music with a dark background, mainly in the dark or at night. He had this very edgy-like character to him. Whereas everybody else had a regular walk and didn’t typically wear hoodies; if they did, they never had them up. His posture was somewhat slumped, and he rarely held his head high or stood up straight. In almost all the scenes he appears in, there’s always dark lighting on him with dramatic background music, whereas other characters have more brightness in their scenes. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/17/24 Full Review Audience Member Watch the theater cut, not the director's cut. The director's cut suffers from over-explaining some of the elements that detract from the over-all story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/26/24 Full Review Schwanzus L Absolute masterpiece! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review william s I gave the movie more credit upon a first watch, assuming the film was super smart and I was just missing the deep hidden meanings.... But, after watching Richard Kelly's absolutely incomprehensible "Southland Tales" I assume Donnie Darko was just his first attempt at weird and blandly nebulous filmmaking. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Emma T Enjoyed this film many times. Jake Gyllenhall, Drew Barrymore and Patrick Swayze give unforgettable performances. Interesting stylistic choices and dynamic plot. Cult classic.
