Tales of Halloween boasts a number of fun scares and is overall more consistent than many horror anthology films, even if it isn't quite as dark or nasty as the classics of the genre.

Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com As anthologies go, this one is a heck of a lot of fun, even the misses having a spunky, go-for-broke attitude worthy of going a tiny bit crazy for. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 22, 2016 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter While it pales in comparison to such horror anthology predecessors as Tales from the Crypt, Asylum and Creepshow, Tales of Halloween offers enough minor diversions to make it enjoyable late-night viewing. Dec 7, 2015 Full Review Nell Minow Movie Mom There is a kind of cheerful innocence and simplicity to these stories that will endear them to their target audience. Rated: B- Oct 30, 2015 Full Review Chris Joyce Movies and Munchies (YouTube) While Tales of Halloween is not the scariest, goriest, or most captivating of anthologies, it does provide an hour and a half of unique and short stories that can make you laugh, squirm, and roll your eyes. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 3, 2023 Full Review Kevin A. Ranson MovieCrypt.com Hearing the sultry Adrienne Barbeau (channeling DJ Stevie Wayne from The Fog) introducing each story while appearing in none of them is the biggest offense among many. Rated: 2/4 Oct 17, 2021 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed It makes for an excellent party movie as there is something for everybody and the stories are short and fun. Jeff M This anthology really gets off to a strong start. Barbeau starts the proceedings as a radio DJ - an obvious nod to her role in THE FOG 35 years earlier - and her memorably husky voice is heard throughout the movie. The first couple segments are rather effective, and I was particularly tickled to see the first one take place in Haddonfield, IL. Horror nuts will immediately recognize this as the city from the HALLOWEEN franchise. Sadly, the early promise disintegrates quickly, with many of the segments not making any sense whatsoever and seemingly existing simply to come up with new and inventive ways of killing off their characters. I often enjoy anthology movies, but fitting 10 short stories into 97 minutes is pushing it. Rotten Tomatoes has a 77% critical approval rating for this one, so apparently there's something I'm missing. But the audience approval is only 41%, so that makes me feel a bit better. If everything else were as strong as the first 20 minutes, I'd give this a hearty recommendation. Unfortunately this is a snowball going downhill if I ever saw one. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review Fleegle B An awesome Halloween horror movie not as good as Trick 'r Treat but still really good Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/16/23 Full Review Patrick P Such a great piece for Halloween. The short stories had a way of bringing me back to Halloween as a child.. There is also a lot of dark humor which offsets the gore. . Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/04/23 Full Review M W Very interesting. Stories ran together, at times comical. Definitely would recommend if you want light but something to keep you guessing as well. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/23 Full Review Logan D Cast: Grace Phipps (The Vampire Diaries) Booboo Stewart (Twilight Saga) Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog; Creepshow) Lin Shaye (Insidious) Barry Bostwick (Rocky Horror) Sam Witwer (Being Human) Greg Grunberg (Heroes) John Landis (dir. An American Werewolf in London) Joe Dante (dir. Gremlins; The Howling) Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator) Pollyanna McIntosh (Walking Dead) James Duval (Penance) Pat Healy (The Innkeepers) Adam Green (Hatchet) Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes) Stuart Gordon (dir. re-animator) Mick Garris (dir. Sleepwalkers) Marc Senter (Devil's Carnival) Kristina Klebe ( Rob Zombie's Halloween ) Keir Gilchrist (dark summer) Clare Kramer ( Buffy the Vampire Slayer) Jose Pablo Cantillo (Walking Dead) John Savage (Carnivale) Caroline Williams ( The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) Ten connected tales about Halloween wrapped in comedy and horror. One of the better horror anthologies out there and you'll recognize many of the players. I mention what works they did before this movie as they're virtually all either horror icons or have done horror movies. Lots of dark humor, some silliness, and some jump scares. Recommended. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/23 Full Review Joshua C It was pretty good! I put it on thinking it was going to be more of a campy movie, or more like Goosebumps. It was a bit bloodier than expected in that regard & more, I would say, like Creepshow. It was fun though! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
