Excessive Heat Continues Across the South; Elevated Fire Weather Conditions in the West

Hot temperatures will stick around for much of the weekend in the Deep South. Some areas may see heat indices reach above 100 degrees. In the west, hot and dry conditions continue to pose a fire weather threat especially within the Great Basin. NWS is extending the comment period for the Experimental National Geographic Information System (GIS) Map Viewer (“the Viewer”) web application hosted on the Amazon Web Services public cloud through May 27, 2022. The following notification  and news article contain more information. The Viewer is also embedded below.

Many of the National Weather Service data sets are available in formats that are able to be imported directly into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or your own custom map viewers or web pages.  Data formats include downloadable shapefiles and KML formats, web services, and our basemaps in shapefile format.
