America Ferrera celebrates Oscar nom with Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants costars over FaceTime

"There was a lot of screaming."

The sisterhood lives on!

America Ferrera celebrated her first-ever Academy Award nomination, for her supporting role as Gloria in Greta Gerwig's Barbie, with a star-studded crew over FaceTime, including her former Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants costars.

Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively, and Amber Tamblyn are all smiles in the screenshot shared by Ferrera on Instagram a day after her nomination. The post features a re-enactment of the moment she found out she was nominated, directed by her husband Ryan Piers Williams, who also cameos in Barbie as Gloria's husband.

"He was taking the kids to school so I was at home alone but he insisted on a re-do," Ferrera wrote of her husband. "And then there was a lot of screaming with some of my sisters on FaceTime. I’m still processing. Needless to say, wow! What a thing! Childhood dream realized." Ferrera also shouted out "queens" Gerwig and costar Margot Robbie, who, while recognized in the Best Picture category, did not receive recognition in the Best Director and Best Actress categories, respectively.

The duo "deserve everything for what they gifted the world," Ferrera captioned.

Following the news of Ferrera's nomination Tuesday, Tamblyn celebrated her "beautiful, stunning," and "brilliant" costar. "I am SO PROUD OF YOU," she wrote on Instagram.

In Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Ferrera, Tamblyn, Bledel, and Lively play four best friends who hatch a plan to stay connected through a pair of secondhand jeans as life takes them in separate directions. The 2005 film spawned a 2008 sequel, which followed the friends as they learned it may take more than a pair of denim to keep them bonded.

Ferrera, an Emmy and Golden Globes winner, told EW early Tuesday that she was in "disbelief" over her first-time Oscar nom. "It's so surreal and a dream come true for me," she said. "I can so viscerally remember being a kid watching the Academy Awards and watching Halle Berry win, watching Julia Roberts win, and just dreaming one day that I would be in that room. It's a lot to process. It's exciting to say the least. I think words kind of fail."

When the news came in, "I snuggled back in bed with my iPhone and thought, 'Let me just take this news lying down,'" Ferrera said.

The 96th Academy Awards will air on Sunday, March 10, at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on ABC. See the full list of 2024 Oscar nominations.
