Jason Derulo is looking to punch up the debut of Lethal Weapon in a big way: The singer-songwriter has been cast as a boxer in one of the drama’s early episodes, EW has learned exclusively.

Derulo will play Ronald Dawson, an up-and-coming light heavyweight boxer who “knows how to throw a mean left hook and a raging party. Dawson’s never shy about putting his toned physique on display, which, in combination with his winning smile, means one or several ladies are never far off,” according to Fox.

Dawson meets detectives Murtaugh (Damon Wayans Sr.) and Riggs (Clayne Crawford) when gunshots go off at a party at his Hollywood Hills rental.

Derulo’s episode will air Sept. 28.

This isn’t the first time the singer-songwriter has appeared on a Fox drama. Last year, he played himself on Empire. He is also serving as a judge on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, which airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.

Forgot what Derulo has accomplished? Here’s an update: he’s sold more than 55 million singles worldwide, all of which he co-wrote. His music has been streamed over 6 billion times on Spotify, and his singles have aired on radio to an audience of over 17 billion since his debut single “Whatcha Say.” His Platinum Hits album is out July 29, and he has a new single, “Kiss the Sky,” which is the theme song for the new Andy Samberg film, Storks.

Fox has high hopes for its small-screen adaptation of the Lethal Weapon movie franchise. Debuting Sept. 21, Lethal Weapon — which also stars Jordana Brewster — will be paired with Empire on Wednesday nights.
