Alarming Trend: Nearly 2 out of 3 influencers have 60% fake Instagram followers 😯 A recent report by influencer marketing platform Klug Klug has revealed a concerning trend in India's influencer marketing industry. Nearly two out of three Instagram profiles in India have spurious or fake followers in excess of 60 percent. This issue is particularly prevalent in the beauty and fashion industry, where influencers resort to deceptive practices, potentially leading to significant financial losses for brands investing in influencer marketing campaigns. The report highlights that only 2.48 million profiles out of the eight million audited exhibited credible and high-quality followers. India is both the largest supplier and buyer of fake followers, with the cost of buying fake followers as low as Rs 8 to Rs 10 for 1,000 followers and going up to Rs 50 per 1,000 followers on Instagram. This alarming trend not only affects brands but also legitimate influencers who are in a race to amplify reach and get the attention of brands. Brands lose 30-50 percent of their money on every campaign due to fake followers, which results in poor engagement rates and complicates efforts to measure true impact and ROI. While fake followers are being bought by all types and sizes of influencers, a smaller fraction, who are larger influencers, also buy comments and likes, in what is known as engagement buying. This practice is more common among larger influencers who monetize their content and need to show higher engagement to brands. However, it's not just brands that face the side-effects of fake followers; some influencers, too, are losing opportunities. Brands are working with the top 500 creators, making it challenging for new creators to make space for themselves. Despite the menace of fake followers affecting the influencer industry, there are some red flags that brands and influencer marketing agencies have started to look out for, such as engagement rates and the number of views compared to the number of followers. As brands and agencies, it's crucial to work together to ensure a transparent and trustworthy influencer marketing landscape. I keep referring to this slide when it comes to the market opportunity. If you are a brand like Pickyourtrail catering to the Upper middle and HNI class population in India - there will be a minimum 10x explosing in your target segment over the course of next 6-8 years. While short term challenges like hiring, culture, geo-political challenges exist - if we stay committed then there are many interesting outcomes possible in the next decade. The long thinking helps us face short term hurdles with better conviction. If you have been thinking of starting a d2c brand, now is the time. Restaurant ID: 21220536 I have started a new cloud kitchen & went on to list it on Zomato. Little did I know what horrible struggle was waiting ahead. The experience till now with Zomato has been nothing short of a nightmare! I am shocked to learn that every restaurant listed on Zomato has gone through this frustrating process of fighting against a team that is constantly trying to undo all your efforts. 1. I had provided my menu in the most structured way possible in an excel sheet, clearly stating categories, sub-categories, item names, prices & descriptions. All they had to do was to copy everything & paste it on the menu. THEY COULDN'T DO IT! Most of the descriptions are left empty! Some of the descriptions are different from what I had shared! I couldn't believe it! They had changed the very thing that described exactly what the item is & how it is prepared! Not only that! There are spelling mistakes, grammatical mistakes & punctuational mistakes as well. All this could have been avoided had they just copied & pasted what I had provided them! 2. Every change that you make in your menu is then reviewed by the Zomato team. In the review they RANDOMLY CHANGE CRUCIAL DETAILS like number of pieces or portion size of a dish! I am not even exaggerating! There is a wide range of momos available in my menu but the number of momos offered in each dish is fixed (6) & that's what I updated in the menu. The review team JUST RANDOMLY CHANGED THE NUMBER OF PIECES TO 2, 4, 5, 6! I am now again changing all the random numbers to actual number that is 6! The question that I want answered by management at Zomato is that does your team think restaurant owners have absolutely no work other than spending hours searching for RANDOM changes that your team has made to our menu for no reason at all, which needs correction & correct them manually every day? 3. Zomato Hyperpure has been utter disappointment! There is no concept of time with the team responsible for deliveries at Zomato Hyperpure. I have placed 5-6 orders from hyperpure & NOT A SINGLE ONE has arrived on time. And it doesn't stop there! Once an order is running late, they update the delivery time, which has absolutely no meaning at all. The actual delivery time may be 3-4 hours after the updated delivery time or even 2-3 hours before without any prior intimation. About one order, at around 3 pm, I was informed that It is running late & will arrive at after 4:45 pm. Keeping that in mind, I stepped out for some work & within 15 minutes, delivery person was standing at my closed shop, complaining to me about his wasted time because of me. The Zomato management needs to understand that owners of the restaurants listed on Zomato are not illiterate idiots. We know what portion size means, how to write attractive & explanatory descriptions, how to organize menu items in the most convenient way. Past few weeks have been a constant struggle against Zomato menu review team, which is making all the efforts to ensure that I go out of business ASAP. Following is a list of some of the major issues I am facing and have spent countless hours with so called customer “support” team for- 1.      WRONG/ERRONEOUS MENU EDITS: I always triple check all the spellings and grammatical formations before submitting any menu item or description. I do not know what kind of culture is rotting at Zomato that nobody even doubts what they are updating for the restaurant partners. At one instance, I had written “Indonesian chicken curry” which was changed to “Indonesian in chicken curry”. I don’t know the qualifications of the review team but I would have laughed at such a mistake even in 5th standard. Would you ever order from a restaurant that is placing itself as a premium restaurant and has such rookie mistakes in their menu? I’m sure nobody ever will. 2.      WRONG PORTION SIZE EDITS: I am the owner of my restaurant and I get to decide variants of my dishes and what portion I want to serve to the customers. With this clear in my mind, I have set a price for a portion size serving 3-4 persons for all the dishes. I had clearly stated it using menutool dashboard as variant “Serves 3-4”. The review team thinks otherwise. They think they own the restaurant and can instruct me to provide a portion size serving 3 persons for the same price. They edited all the menu items in this manner by changing the variant to “Serves 3”. While arguing with customer support team regarding the same, I was assured that the menu will not be edited without my permission. I spent 4 hours again to edit all items again. AND AGAIN, THE REVIEW TEAM EDITED THE PORTION SIZE/VARIANT TO THE ONE OF THEIR OWN CHOICE THAT IS “SERVES 3”. If I am paying the rent of the kitchen, salaries of the staff and if I am the one who’s name is on the FSSAI certificate, should I not be entitled to decide what dishes I want to serve, its variants, portion sizes and corresponding prices? 3.      CHANGES IN NAME OF THE DISHES IN MENU: I, being the owner of restaurant, want to name a dish “Szechuan fried rice”. Is it illegal? Or offensive? Or vulgar? Which guideline is it violating? If not, THEN WHY IS IT BEING CHANGED TO SCHEZWAN EVERYWHERE EVERYTIME? Does your team think I am not literate enough to understand the difference? Why is my repeated effort of changing the names from “Schezwan” to “Szechuan” being nullified by the team and the dish is again and again being renamed as “Schezwan”? I am still on Zomato not because I want to, but because I have to. I am actively looking for alternatives. The journey with Zomato has been so frustrating that it feels like it would have been better had I never decided to go online. Below is a link to my previous woes with Zomato. TISS Mumbai, HRMLR has released its cutoff for GD-PI calls which is at staggering 275 marks out of 300 for this year! Congratulations to all those who made the cut. However, the fight is still not over. Now you will be competing with crème de la crème who are all fighting for just about 60 seats. While there is always a factor of uncontrollables and luck involved in any B-School selection process, doing well in GD and PI rounds are the controllables you can work upon - Group Discussion (GD) Tips: 1. Stay Updated: Be well-versed with current topics, significant news, and historical events. Topics can vary widely, and they rarely repeat. 2. Analytical Methods: Use PESTEL analysis, stakeholder analysis, STAR approach during the GD to showcase your analytical skills. 3. Handling Unfamiliar Topics: If you encounter an unfamiliar topic, stay calm. You can request other members to speak first while you form your opinion. 4. Initiate and Facilitate: Aim to start the discussion for an advantage, but ensure you allow others to contribute. If the topic is unclear, you can start with a stakeholder analysis. 5. Time Management: Keep track of the time and guide the group towards a consensus. Alert the group if time is running out and ensure everyone has a chance to speak. Interview Preparation Tips: 1. HR Knowledge: Be ready to discuss why you chose HR, your knowledge of HR/OB theories, your motivation as well if you know the various domains under HR. Expect some general topics unrelated to HR as well. 2. Detailed Application Form: Prepare and write your DAF extremely well. Whatever you have written in DAF – you must know by heart. 3. Key Topics you should know: Labour Codes, POSH Act 2013, Kirkpatrick's Model, DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging), OCEAN and Big 5 Personality Traits etc. 4. Motivation Theories: Reading up Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, McGregor's Theory X and Theory Y, Vroom's Expectancy Theory, McClelland's Theory of Needs, Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory, ERG Theory. 5. Additional Concepts: 360 Degree Feedback, Balanced Scorecard, 9 Box Model may be some miscellaneous topics to ponder upon (if you have time).
