Interior design experts reveal how Bridgerton fans can achieve the Regency era 'coquette core' aesthetic at home

The third season of Bridgerton is finally upon us - and viewers are desperate to channel their favorite characters by re-imagining the romantic room décor. 

This latest installment is focused on Penelope Featherington (played by Nicola Coughlan), who becomes a bit of a coquette in an effort to find a husband - and along the way appears to seduce her longtime love interest and best friend, Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton). 

While some people have remarked that this season has felt too modern, it hasn't stopped fans from embracing all things Regency. 

It's perfect timing, as the super feminine coquette craze has taken over fashion and beauty, with bows covering everything from hair ties to sweaters.

Now, Bridgerton viewers are embracing interiors inspired by the show, with a coquette twist for a flirtatious, modern edge - so FEMAIL spoke to experts to find out the best way to incorporate it into your own home without it feeling dated.

FEMAIL spoke to experts to find out the best way to incorporate it into your home without it feeling dated

The coquette home trend is all about shabby chic, super romantic styles - from cozy floral quilts to ribbon bows as curtain pulls - with lots of gold accents. 

San Francisco-based architect and interior designer Malak Bellajdel told FEMAIL, 'To get the Bridgerton look with a modern edge, it's all about layering in luxurious textures, ornate details and rich jewel tones.'

The in-house interior design expert at Pet Portraits suggested starting with 'plush velvet upholstery, ornate brocade drapery and fabrics trimmed with tassels or fringe for an opulent and romantic vibe,' as well as tufted sofas and armchairs, with loads of gilded accents like mirrored side tables or metallic frames.

The expert is also a fan of antiques, including crystal chandeliers, although she warned to 'balance these traditional elements with clean-lined, contemporary case goods and seating to keep it fresh.' 

Homeowners can also spice things up with wallpaper such as using floral damask or classic toile.

'It's about blending romantic patterns, rich colors and historical detailing with sleek, contemporary lines,' Malak said. 'This will go a long way in achieving that romantic coquette ambiance with enough modern elements to keep the overall look feeling fresh.'

Brad Smith, the CEO and principal designer at Omni Home Ideas in Dallas, Texas, suggested mixing pastels with vibrant colors like emerald green 'to evoke that aristocratic feel,' as well as procuring 'furniture with ornate woodwork and plush upholstery.'

'Layering is crucial,' Brad told FEMAIL. 'Use damask or floral prints for curtains, cushions, and upholstery to add a luxurious texture.'

'Be careful not to get too carried away with the coquette aesthetic because your home can quickly look dated,' Shannon warned

'Your rooms don't need to be old and stuffy to incorporate the refined elegance seen in Bridgerton,' Shannon said

While you might want to channel Penelope in your bedroom, Shannon believes it's easier to try the trend in your kitchen or dining room, especially if you're planning a dinner party

'It's hard not to be inspired by the beautiful costumes and stately homes in Bridgerton, but be careful not to get too carried away with the coquette aesthetic because your home can quickly look dated,' Shannon warned.

Instead, she suggested 'a bold, fun wallpaper like an equestrian-themed wallcovering, then layer in pops of regal colors and rich materials,' while making sure to 'incorporate transitional and modern pieces.' 

While you might want to channel Penelope in your bedroom, Shannon believes it's easier to try the trend in your kitchen or dining room, especially if you're planning a dinner party. 

'Your rooms don't need to be old and stuffy to incorporate the refined elegance seen in Bridgerton,' Shannon said. 

But it's not just about interiors - your flooring has to suit the Regency era. 

'Soft, neutral, marble flooring designs are a key player in Regency-core interiors,' Paul Hambidge, managing director at Factory Direct Flooring in England, told FEMAIL.

'Because marble often has similar tones to those found in pearls, they evoke the same opulence and sophistication that we can see in Netflix's Bridgerton.' 

Marble isn't the only option - Paul also suggested dark wood flooring with warmer undertones to add depth, which 'pairs well with lighter walls to maintain a sense of airiness.' 

If you can't redo your floors, there are far simpler way to channel Bridgerton. 

'Think about layering different types of lighting at different heights to get that romantic glow around the room,' said London-based Sue Jones, the creative director and co-founder at OKA.

'With maximalist interiors on the rise and another season of Bridgerton, I don't see the Regency-inspired aesthetic going anywhere soon,' Sue said

Interior designer Christiane Lemieux confirmed that the historical trend is going strong, with Bridgerton 'absolutely inspiring people'

'This aesthetic is all about floral ceramic table lamps, gilded floor lamps and dramatic chandeliers, even better if it features mock candles like this chandelier,' Sue said, suggesting lampshades in silk with botanical designs. 

Sue said another easy inclusion is a gilded mirror in the hallway or a velvet sofa. 

'With maximalist interiors on the rise and another season of Bridgerton, I don't see the Regency-inspired aesthetic going anywhere soon,' Sue said. 

'In fact, I think we'll see Regency-inspired pieces incorporated into our homes in a more contemporary way to suit the modern home - think sumptuous velvet cushions, gold-painted side tables and console tables with clean silhouettes and modern takes on the slipper chair, such as this one, to tie old and new together.' 

New York-based interior designer Christiane Lemieux confirmed that the historical trend is going strong, with Bridgerton 'absolutely inspiring people.' 

'Everything from prints to pastels is shaking up the all beige, all bouclé, all the time looks that we have endured for years,' the Inside and DwellStudio founder continued. 

'We are seeing crystal and china come back, too,' the Undecorate author continued. 

'The look can be achieved by lawyering in some pillows, art, lots of fresh flowers and Bridgerton-worthy crystal accessories,' Christiane advised.
