Aussie woman is asked to leave her friend's baby shower over a bizarre rule no one's heard of before: 'I'm super confused'

A woman was left baffled after being told to her leave her high school friend's baby shower because of her dress choice.

Taking to Reddit, the woman explained that she had worn what she thought was an appropriate white and blue floral sundress to help her old friend Claire celebrate her impending birth.

But the mum-to-be took issue with her white look.

'I didn't think anything of it because, as far as I know, white is only inappropriate for bridal events,' she said.

Upon arrival, the host's 'mood seemed to immediately sour' and she was 'instantly cold' towards her friend.

A mutual friend then pulled her aside and told her to leave the party.

'She said that Claire was offended by my 'attention seeking behavior' and that it was inappropriate to wear white to Claire's event. I left,' she said.

Friends in the close knit group were refusing to take sides and a few even suggested that she should apologise to the host, even if she wasn't in the wrong.

'I'm super confused,' she said.

Commenters were quick to address the confusion and defend the woman.

'My thoughts immediately went to some stupid reason...you probably looked lovely in that dress and she felt fat and ugly,' suggested one.

Another agreed, 'I’ve never once heard of not wearing white to a baby shower. It sounds like she was feeling insecure and something about how you looked made her feel bad about herself. While that sucks, it’s not your fault.'

A Redditor surmised that the blue in the dress and not the white might have been the cause of the unintended offence if it was viewed as an impermissible reveal of the baby's gender.

Most people agreed that the woman needed new friends with one asking, 'did you take your gift with you when you left?'

Redditors seemed united in their derision of Claire.

'Now pregnant people want ALL the attention on them at a baby shower - which is nothing more than a gift-grab,' said one.

This isn't the first time outfit-shaming at a formal event has been a hot topic on online.

A Louisiana mother of the bride recently sparked fierce debate with her outfit choice at her daughter's wedding.

Donning a stunning pale green floral gown with a majestic train, many argued that her striking attire was inappropriate as it completely upstaged the bride on her special day.
