Ageless Style SOS: 'I haven't tucked in a top since I was a kid', nurse Jo Gray, 50, gets a makeover

Problem ‘I’m a mum and a nurse. I’m in uniform all day for work and I don’t have much time, energy or enthusiasm to spend on myself. I feel stuck in a rut, so I resort to wearing jeans and a T-shirt or practical dog-walking clothes. I need an expert’s opinion on what will look good on me.’

Solution

Jo wanted to inject some fun into her wardrobe, so I made a beeline for bright pieces that have character. When you’ve been stuck in a style rut, colour can feel intimidating, so try to find eye-catching items that will pair well with wardrobe staples such as these wide-leg jeans.

This top from Next screams summer and is a statement throw-on item that elevates a casual outfit. Accessories are another great way to add vibrancy.

Jo’s verdict

‘I would never normally consider pale-wash jeans as I’ve always gone for darker shades, but these feel so summery. I love clothes that are a bit silly and fun. The print of this top has so much personality, and Steph taught me all about the benefits of tucking them in like this.

I haven’t tucked anything in since I was a kid, but I can see how this small adjustment flatters, and I will definitely be doing it in the future.’
