EXCLUSIVEJay Slater's mother says she is 'losing her mind' and 'breaking down' in a 'living hell' as there is still no sign of her 19-year-old son nearly four weeks after he disappeared in Tenerife

Missing Jay Slater's mother has spoken in depth for the first time about her missing son almost four weeks after he disappeared in Tenerife and described her 'living hell'.

Apprentice bricklayer Jay, 19, vanished after being driven to a remote Air BnB by two men at the end of an after party in a nightclub on the Spanish party island on June 17 leaving mum Debbie Duncan, 55, fraught with worry.

On Monday it will be four weeks since he was last in contact with friends – calling them to say he was 'lost in the mountains, thirsty and with one per cent battery'.

A 13-day search by police using drones, dogs and a helicopter failed to find any trace of Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, in the barren wilderness of the Teno National Park close to the village of Masca.

Police have said they are 'continuing with the investigation and have lines open' but refuse to disclose them leaving school finance officer Debbie and the rest of his family in the dark.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline from Tenerife where she has been with Jay's father Warren, 58, and brother Zak, 24, Debbie described her nightmare ordeal of waiting for news.

She said:' My life is a living hell at the minute, we are normal family from Lancashire, I'm breaking down, I'm losing my mind here.

'I can't even bear the thought of my life carrying on without Jay, I just can't, he were my everything, he were my sidekick.

'Me and his dad split up years ago, so I brought him up, my mind is racing but I'm being distracted with loads of nonsense conspiracy theories and it's not helping.'

Warren and Zak have spent days combing through the area around the Juan Lopez gorge in the Teno Park, northwest Tenerife where Jay's mobile last pinged in scorching 25c heat.

Debbie added:' 'Warren and Jay's brother have been up there, and it worried me I've told them not to do 'owt stupid as it's dangerous up there, and I've said not be going down any paths.

'I can't bring myself to go there, I just don't think my brain would cope, I would collapse.'

Masca is an hour from the Papagayo nightclub in the heady resort of Playa de las Americas where Jay was last seen with the two British men following the conclusion of the New Rave Generation three-day festival.

One was later exclusively identified by MailOnline as convicted drug dealer Ayub Qassim, 31, but the second men has still not been located although Spanish police insist they are irrelevant to the disappearance.

When approached by MailOnline at his east London home, Qassim, who was jailed for nine years for drug trafficking, said 'He arrived alive and he left alive' - but refused to go into any further details.

Jay called friends Lucy Mae Law and Brad Hargreaves, both 19, at around 8.50am on June 17 to say he was lost and had left the AirBnB to try and catch a bus home but had missed one and was instead walking – a journey that would have taken ten hours.

But with no trace of him in the valley lost the family are growing increasingly convinced he is not up there and are turning to the possibility he may have been taken away by someone else.

Debbie said: 'All I can do is stay here and go to the police station, but we are as much in the dark as anyone, we really don't know anything, I just don't know any more.

'I've asked Lancashire police for help but they can't tell me anything, it's just so frustrating.

'I've screamed and ranted at police but we're just not getting anywhere, I think they were talking about contacting Interpol.

'I just don't know what to think, my head is a jumble of what could be and what couldn't be.

'All I know is that Jay is missing and we don't know anything. He's a nice decent lad, he comes from a good home, it's just so frustrating.

'My son is missing, and we need answers, that's all I know. I just need to know if he has fallen up there and why he went up there.

'My child is missing top and bottom line, that's it, we've just got to put our trust in the investigators and not nonsense conspiracy theories.'
