Ringwood North, Melbourne: Tragedy as two people are killed in ferocious house fire

Two people have died in a house fire tragedy in Melbourne's east overnight.

Emergency services were called to a home on Glenvale Road in Ringwood North at around 3.45am on Saturday to reports that the property was engulfed in flames.

When firefighters and the police got to the scene the found the blaze was already well alight.

The two people who were found dead inside the home have not yet been formally identified.

At least 12 fire trucks reportedly attended the blaze, the cause of which is not yet known. 

'Crews aggressively attacked the fire,' a Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said.

'The home has been destroyed by fire and the roof has collapsed.'

The fire was deemed under control just after 4.30am.

'Sadly, two bodies were found inside the property once the fire was extinguished,' a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad and an arson chemist are also expected at the home. 

Roads in the area have been cordoned off.
