Donvale, Melbourne: Tributes for dad and 'good neighbour' killed in ferocious house fire that also claimed the life of his son

Tributes are flowing for a man described as a loving father who perished in a tragic house fire alongside his son in Melbourne's east.

Victoria Police are investigating the cause of the blaze  at Craig Road, Donvale, however, a spokeswoman confirmed the fire has been deemed non-suspicious.

Emergency services raced to the scene about 3.45am on Saturday and found the two-storey house well ablaze.

After a 45-minute battle, the fire was deemed under control just after 4.30am and the bodies of father Calvin Reeder and his son Brendon were found inside.

Mr Reeder's neighbour, Angelo von Möller, paid tribute, describing him as caring and generous.

'This is an incredibly tragic loss for our community,' Mr Möller told NewsWire.

'Calvin was always there for us and our neighbours, whether it was just to have a chat or to fix a part on a tractor, he was there for us.

'He was the epitome of a good neighbour. He was a loving father to his son Brendon'.
