Footy legend lists five acts the NRL could pick that would be BETTER than Katy Perry - as AFL is slammed over grand final entertainment

  • Mark Geyer put forward his NRL Grand Final entertainment choices
  • Geyer would love to see likes of AC/DC or The Killers perform in Sydney
  • AFL expected to confirm Katy Perry will perform at MCG this September

Footy legend Mark Geyer has outlined five music acts he believes would add to the spectacle of the NRL Grand Final for fans this season.

It comes as the AFL has been slammed in some quarters amid speculation pop superstar Katy Perry will perform at the MCG on September 28, where she will reportedly earn a fee of $5million.

The American sensation, 39, is known for hits like Roar, Teenage Dream and Firework, and also features on the catchy adverts for Menulog.

She performed at the Women's T20 World Cup final in 2020, where she later let her hair down with the likes of Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry.

But questions remarks remain if an AFL audience would embrace her music on the code's biggest day of the season.

Speaking on the latest podcast episode of MG’s Rugby League Rundown, Panthers premiership-winner Geyer displayed his impressive knowledge of modern day music bands and performers.

Geyer, 56, offered his 'top five' to Triple M listeners as part of a power rankings segment in relation to proposed NRL Grand Final entertainment.

'Starting at five, my first choice would be Kid Laroi,' the former NSW Blues Origin enforcer began.

'He is so hot right now, probably the biggest pop star on the planet.'

Next on Geyer's hit-list was Aussie electronic band Peking Duk, followed by The Killers and home-grown pop princess Kylie Minogue.

He then listed his preferred choice to belt out their classics at Accor Stadium - legendary rock band AC/DC.

'Imagine them at the Grand Final and then [possibly at the NRL season opener] in Vegas next year,' Geyer said.

'It would be the ultimate.'

Co-host Liam Flanagan was on the same page, with both men confident a fee of '$10 million' could sway AC/DC to entertain fans at Sydney this October - and then in Vegas next March.
