Gavin and Stacey's Neil The Baby admits he is 'disappointed' to have not been cast in the upcoming Christmas special

The actor who played baby Neil on Gavin And Stacey is 'disappointed' to have not been included in the upcoming final episode.

Oscar Hartland, 15, played the son of Smithy (James Corden) and Nessa (Ruth Jones) on the hit BBC Three sitcom from birth, but wasn't even asked to feature in the last ever special, which will air on Christmas Day.

He told The Sun: 'I'm disappointed. I was hoping to get the call. Neil must feature in the final episode because, they can't write him out. Neil would be 15, the same age as me.'

Oscar made his first appearance in the finale of series two in 2008 and was last seen in the festive special in 2019.

The Welsh teenager has started up a second career as a musician these days and has just released his first single but still has fond memories of working on the series.

He added: 'I loved working on the show although I obviously can't remember my first spell as baby Neil because I was so young.

'But I had a great time working again when I was ten, especially as I had to have a month off school. All my scenes were with Ruth and she was brilliant with me, we got on really well.'

The schoolboy also told of how Ruth became a mother to him off screen as she 'looked after' him on set.

Oscar now plays for the Caerphilly Rugby Club, where his nickname has become Neil and he 'doesn't mind' that fans think that is his real name.

Gavin and Stacey fist aired on BBC Three in 2007 and spanned 20 episodes over the course of three series.

As well as James and Ruth, it turned Mathew Horne and Joanna Page into household names.

He told MailOnline: 'I'd love to do it again - I'm ready if they are.

'Everyone's heard the rumours and the whole country wants to see another episode. I'd love to be part of that.'
