Guess who! She's a familiar face in households across Australia... but would you recognise this daytime TV star from her youthful modelling days?

Her career résumé includes stints as a professional dancer, actress and TV presenter.

But this Australian star, who welcomed her first child at 49, surprisingly began her career as a fashion model.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, she shared a throwback snap from her youth - but can you recognise her?

The young woman in the photo is none other than Sonia Kruger.

The now 53-year-old captioned the photo with the hashtags 'Throwback Thursday', 'modelling portfolio' and 'Blue steel'.

Sonia first rose to national fame playing Tina Sparkle in Baz Luhrmann's 1992 movie Strictly Ballroom.

Her acting career also includes a role in Channel Nine's Doctor Doctor.

However, Sonia is perhaps best known for co-hosting Today Extra alongside David Campbell and as the former host of the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars.

The Queensland-born star is in a relationship with TV executive Craig McPherson.

She gave birth to her daughter Maggie, now three, in January 2015 after undergoing IVF treatment.

IVF is a medical procedure in which a human egg and sperm are joined together outside a woman's body in a laboratory to achieve fertilisation.

The fertilised egg, or embryo, grows in a protected environment for a short period of time before being transferred into the woman's uterus to increase the chance of pregnancy.
