Massimo Dutti's new-in collection is not to be slept on – the Spanish label may grace the high street, but its pieces have longevity that will see you through more than just one season. To put it plainly, this isn’t just ephemeral fast fashion, people; it’s the foundation of an enduring wardrobe.

If like me, you've been lusting after a load of warm-weather looks for summer, but don't know where to start – it's well worth checking out the brand's new-in collection. Massimo Dutti is a go-to for both timeless and understated pieces – think: elevated basics and tailored separates along with scene-stealing dresses and tonal co-ords that feel laid-back yet fashion forward.

This season, I've been searching for ‘fits to make a statement in – like runway-approved pops of red to breathe new life into my wardrobe, floor-sweeping summer dresses and perhaps some trend-led accessories like mesh ballet flats and layering jewellery.

So, in a bid to add a few more pieces to my capsule wardrobe, I stopped by Massimo Dutti's Regent's Street store to see what stood out – so you don't have to. Bright red bled into its new-in collection, thanks to cues from Schiaparelli, Saint Laurent, and Valentino – while options abound for crisp white pieces across summer tops, linen trousers and breezy shirts – as per The Row, Stella McCartney and Valentino's SS24 collections.

In short, I was very impressed – the new-in section is full of hidden gems – so much so, that I ended up leaving with 11 new 'fits. The good news is that most, if not all, of these pieces can be dressed up or down with items you already own, so a welcome splash of red here, a white shirt there and some hard-working basics in-between – serve as easy updates to give your wardrobe a seasonal switch up.

The Pinstripe Co-Ord

It's no secret that waistcoats have made a boisterous return to our wardrobes this season. Perfect for all occasions, a polished waistcoat-and-trousers co-ord is a solid addition to any workwear rotation, but will also look great at the weekend with straight-leg jeans and sunnies. This ready-made pinstripe set is designed to have a slightly oversized fit, which felt super comfortable on, and I know I'll be able to rely on it as a shortcut to looking pulled together at a moment's notice.

The Ribbed Knit Top & Midi Skirt

ICYMI, thanks to Schiaparelli, Saint Laurent, and Valentino all serving looks saturated in red on their SS24 catwalks, red is one of the hottest colour trends to grace the season. I've been wanting to tap into the trend with pieces that will inject life into my day-to-day wardrobe that's, admittedly, dominated by a wealth of neutrals right now. I'll be wearing this ribbed knit top and relaxed midi skirt with sandals poolside this summer, but once winter arrives it'll work equally well with lashings of gold jewellery for party season.

The Beige Co-Ord

More co-ords, because a capsule wardrobe really isn't complete without one. But, really, the main reason I've been drawn to these sets lately is because they will reduce my getting ready time in half, thanks to the fact that they are, essentially, a ready-made outfit that I can wear together, or mix and match separately. The relaxed silhouette of this jacket, paired with the matching wide-leg trousers, creates a timeless look that’s dressy enough to wear for formal occasions, in lieu of a dress.

The Embroidered White Shirt

A breezy, white linen shirt is a hard-working staple in my wardrobe during spring/summer. A classic, with a loose cut and embroidered detailing, I know this button-down is going to line my wardrobe for decades to come, whether it's to throw on with a pair of slouchy jeans or to wear out to dinner.

The Strappy Red Dress

Massimo Dutti knows exactly how to do summer dresses. This floor-sweeping number is defined by its V-neck and gathered detailing, making it the perfect eye-catching piece that will work from day to night. Despite its flowy fit, it didn't feel overly voluminous when I tried it on; it struck the perfect balance between wearability and comfort.

The Satin Midi Skirt

I've been searching for a sleek satin skirt for some time now, and this black midi caught my eye. I paired it with this halter neck crochet top for summer, but it's versatile enough to complement other pieces already in my wardrobe, such as buttery-soft knitwear or crisp white T-shirts.

The Blue Midi Dress

While I love a voluminous dress moment, I find slip dresses are easier to wear in reality. Trust Massimo Dutti to hit all the right notes: this slinky sky blue dress features elasticated straps and a modest V-neck, making it perfect for weddings and summer parties alike.

The Linen Mini Skirt

I've been loving the denim maxi's renaissance as of late, but I'll always keep coming back to the versatility of a mini skirt. Year after year, I always see mini hemlines pop up on the runways and street style scene during summer so it was time that I took cues from the fashion set and invested in my own to style throughout high summer and beyond.

The Linen Shirt & Trousers

Let's face it, dressing for the UK's unpredictable weather is no mean feat. I often struggle to decide what to wear during awkward in-between temperatures. To add to my transitional wardrobe, I teamed this striped linen shirt with these chocolate-hued wide-leg trousers and I really loved the finished look. They are close enough in shade to complement each other well, but I'm sure I'll find countless ways to style them individually.

The Sage Green Dress

As the weather gradually warms up, I'm seeking outfits that can easily layer with a lightweight knit or stand alone for sunny afternoons. Enter the slip dress — a versatile piece that, with clever styling, can be worn all year round. Dyed in the most flattering sage green, this linen iteration features a round neck with thick straps and an elegant ankle-grazing hem. It's loosely fitted shape allows it to be dressed up or down, so I will be wearing it as a wedding guest dress this summer along with a blazer to work and everything in between.
