We stay connected to our communities through our community impact initiatives. This allows our ‘ohana the opportunity to stay in touch with local non-profits that are aligned with our volunteering and charitable giving initiatives. This month we focused on our Nā Koa Kahiko veterans impact event, supporting veterans and their families. Recently, our Clarksville, Tennessee, office spent the morning at the Fort Campbell Army Fisher House. They spent their time moving furniture within the house to better accommodate the families staying there. The group cleaned inside and out, providing a fresh coat of paint to the porches and pressure-washing the outdoor patio furniture and sidewalk areas. They even cautiously removed cobwebs and wasp nests so families could comfortably enjoy the relaxing outdoor areas. ‘Ohana members from the Huntsville, Alabama, area decided to have a bit more fun. They hosted a luau-themed bingo event at the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home. Beautiful lei were provided for all the guests to wear, making the occasion fun and colorful. Along with the bingo entertainment, snacks, drinks, and exciting prizes were provided. Our volunteers were honored to spend this fun time with the veterans. During July, the DAWSON ‘ohana has been honoring veterans and their families through our Nā Koa Kahiko impact events. DAWSON locations across the country have been giving back to different veteran-related causes all month long. The ‘ohana in Panama City and Eglin Saber teams combined efforts to cook a meal at the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. Fisher House is a network of comfort homes that provides a “home away from home” so military families can be together during medical treatment, serious illness, or physical/occupational therapy. The Eglin Air Force Base home has 12 private suites and serves approximately 1,000 guests yearly. Volunteers worked together preparing a full meal for all of the guests. The team had the opportunity to meet with military families currently staying at the Fisher House and learn more about their stories and how they use the Fisher House as a cost-saving, comfortable support facility so they can focus on the medical needs of their loved ones. July kicks off our month-long Nā Koa Kahiko veterans impact event. This event supports veterans and their families in communities where we work. As a federal contractor with many military veterans within our ‘ohana, this event is incredibly important to us, and we have a kuleana to care for the veterans in our communities. Nā Koa Kahiko (veterans/warriors of the past) was created to serve the Fisher House Foundation and other organizations that assist veterans across the country. For more than 30 years, the Fisher House program has provided a home for families of patients receiving medical care at military and VA medical centers. These homes offer free, temporary lodging to military and veteran families, allowing them to be close to their loved ones during a medical crisis. There are 97 Fisher Houses located in the US, Germany, and the United Kingdom. To date, more than 500,000 families have been served. This week, DAWSON leadership from across the country came together to support the San Antonio Food Bank, an organization fighting hunger and feeding hope across southwest Texas. The team of volunteers sorted and packed food to be handed out at a mass distribution event this week. As a team, more than 41,770 pounds of food were packed into 880 bags to provide more than 33,000 meals to needy families.
