Just another day on the job - or, to be more precise, another day on the river - for Korin Doering and Stephanie Cole of #TeamGEI. #LakeManagement #AquaticPlants #InvasiveSpecies
#TeamGEI was back on the water this week conducting aquatic invasive species surveys on the Menominee River. Part of the surveys included trapping crayfish - it turns out they love catfood! That includes the little guy waving hello in the photo. Stephanie Cole was my field partner for these surveys and we had a ton of fun. It's easy to get distracted by all of the amazing aquatic life on the river. During our adventure we found aquatic moss, freshwater sponge, frogs, minnows galore, native freshwater mussels, and my favorite aquatic plant - bladderwort. We unfortunately found a Chinese mystery snail, an invasive species, which was promptly reported to the Wisconsin and Michigan DNR. Does your lake, reservoir, or river need help with monitoring or managing invasive species? Let us know! At GEI Consultants, Inc., we love aquatic work. #aquaticplants #lakemanagement #ais #invasivespecies

GEI leaders hosted an interactive “Day on the Job” event for 40 Thrive Scholars along with our client, Trammell Crow Company and partner Portal Innovations, LLC. Designed to teach the Scholars about careers in STEM, the event was held at a life sciences building (Fulton Labs). GEI helped remediate the land the building sits on, designed the foundation, and managed the building through construction. Together, with our client and property manager, we showed the Thrive Scholars, how a building comes together from design to build to occupancy. The scholars also learned how GEI helps solve some of the most complex water and environmental challenges. The students toured one of the building’s tenants, a science lab, and learned more about the West Loop, an emerging area of Chicago that is incubating life science-focused start up businesses. While viewing Chicago from the building’s rooftop, they received a personalized visual tour from Geotechnical Project Manager, Darren Diehm, of GEI’s many area projects.
