Here at Silver Birch Living, two of our core values are to Improve It! and to Celebrate It! This post honors both of these values as one of our stellar Directors of Nursing & Wellness has taken on the ambitious goal of obtaining her Indiana Residential Care Administrator's license, and we are proud to announce that Sandi Steward of Silver Birch of Michigan City has done just that! Becky Arthur, Executive Director at Silver Birch of Michigan City had some very kind words for Sandi: "I have had the honor of working side by side with Sandi for several years as a Director of Nursing & Wellness. Time and again I have been moved by her devotion to her residents and being a pillar of strength to their families through the journey of Assisted Living. She is a teacher, mentor, and confidante to all team members, encouraging them to be all that they choose to be. With this spirit for continued learning and growth, she embarked on a path that required countless hours of study in a life that was already full to the brim with commitments. It was not easy, but she has accomplished the goal she set out for which is to obtain her RCA license." Sandi overcame many obstacles to obtain her license, and we could not be more proud of this significant achievement. Sandi shared this with us about her journey: "Becoming an RCA has always been a personal goal of mine. I’ve had many obstacles in my path that hindered or slowed the process of achieving my RCA. After the three years of the Covid pandemic, I had opportunity to re-visit the RCA. Soon after that, my father was diagnosed with bladder and lung cancer and he became my focus. My father transitioned January 24th 2024. He inspired me to move forward with my goal, and a few months later I achieved it. I’m humbled and grateful. My desire is to be mentored by my Executive Director Becky Arthur and other Silver Birch leaders, so that in the future I will be able to be a valuable asset to this great company, Silver Birch." We know you will be successful in whatever goals you set your mind to, Sandi, and we could not be happier to know that you are with our residents each day, inspiring purposeful lives for all. As Becky said, "Whatever path she chooses to follow, she will travel it with wisdom, humility and passion for our seniors".

Silver Birch of Kokomo had the privilege of hosting J. Jacob Sipe, Executive Director for our state partners at Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), for a recent site visit. One of our amazing resident veterans, retired U.S. Marine Jim, hosted a tour for Jake and showed him everything Silver Birch has to offer for our seniors! Thank you to Jake and the team at IHCDA for everything they do for senior Hoosiers, and for stopping by and highlighting the beautiful property along with the many services and amenities we offer our residents like Jim!

As we continue as an organization to advocate for our industry, we were proud to have Silver Birch of Kokomo Executive Director Tony Stewart MBA, HFA, BSHCM, CHC, represent Silver Birch in meeting with Indiana legislators in Washington D.C. during the AHCA/NCAL Congressional Briefings with other Indiana Health Care Association members.
