Those of us who crack open the door to Buying Beverly Hills will likely be curious about how Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards factors into the equation. After all, two of the occu-soap’s main stars are her daughters Farrah Brittany and Alexia Umansky. Then, there’s the fact that Kyle’s husband Mauricio Umansky — who initially gained reality TV stardom alongside Kyle as one of the Real Housewives’ most beloved real husbands — is the mogul at the top of The Agency, the real estate firm at the center of Buying Beverly Hills.
Yet, fans hungry for a glimpse of Kyle might be surprised to find that her presence is actually pretty spare in Season 1 — except for one big emotional scene. But all that's about to change, as the Umansky family matriarch plays a pivotal role in Season 2.
Grab your favorite wide-brimmed hat and turn up the Morgan Wade soundtrack because Kyle Richards is on the scene. Prepare to see even more of the reality star in Season 2, as the entire Umansky family is rocked by the news of her separation with Mauricio. And while most of the drama is focused on the high-stakes world of luxury real estate, Richards is pulled into the fray to address the pivotal moment in her marriage — and how it affects the lives her four beloved daughters, Farrah, Alexia, Sophia, and Porsha.
As for Season 1, Kyle appears via FaceTime in Episode 6 for one of the biggest moments in her eldest daughter Farrah’s life. Over the course of the season, Farrah repeatedly mentions her desire to marry her longtime partner, Alex Manos. She slowly becomes skeptical that her dreams of settling down and having a family will ever come true. Then, towards the end of Episode 6, Alex proposes during a quiet dinner at home. Farrah FaceTimes her parents to share the good news, and Kyle’s beaming face pops up around the 34-minute mark of the episode.
“I’d been dreaming of the day where I could share the news with my parents about my engagement to Alex, so to have that finally happen was so special and sentimental,” Farrah tells Tudum. “You can see how emotional my mom was when she found out, and how excited Mauricio was as well.”
Farrah has a point. Kyle is rendered speechless for most of the chat, until she congratulates the happy couple and reminds them of how much she loves them. Farrah can’t wait to watch the tender scene back for years to come. Particularly since she had no idea her man was about to pop the question.
“I was absolutely stunned!” she admits. Farrah assumed that she and Alex were about to film a scene where they discussed their relationship. “But before I could get into it, Alex proposed right then and there,” she says.
Alex had apparently always planned to propose that evening, with or without cameras around. The engagement ring was ready, and so was he. When Farrah informed Alex that they were going to film a scene that fall night, he “pivoted” to getting engaged on camera. “Everyone behind the scenes filming was taken by surprise and crying,” Farrah says. “But obviously, nobody was more shocked than me.”
For now, Farrah, along with the rest of the Umansky family, is simply enjoying the engagement she had “been wanting for so long.” Farrah has a few wedding details planned and is working to “nail down” her vision for her big day. “There are so many options and so many details to think about,” she says. “It’s overwhelming, but I know we’ll figure out all the special details and it’ll be perfect.”
