‘Heartstopper’ Season 2 Renewal Confirmed - Netflix Tudum
- The gay panic continues.May 20, 2022
We’re about to make your heart stop with some queer joy because Heartstopper creator and writer Alice Oseman has a special announcement: “We were overjoyed with the global reaction to Heartstopper and can’t wait to continue the story with two more seasons. Watch this space!”
That’s right, get ready to say “hi” to two more seasons of Nick (Kit Connor), Charlie (Joe Locke) and all their friends. After premiering last month, the series is still capturing everyone’s hearts, from Kerry Washington to Drag Race judge Michelle Visage. Based on Oseman’s graphic novels of the same name, the series is a celebration of queer love, friendship and joy. “I hope that it just makes people smile and brightens their day — but I also hope that it inspires, particularly, young queer people to believe that they can find happiness and find romance and find friendship,” Oseman tells Tudum. Should we also add that it’s made grown adults fully sob? “We put so much love into the making of Heartstopper so to reassemble the team for two more seasons is a dream come true,” adds executive producer Patrick Walters. “I’m forever grateful to Alice Oseman for entrusting us with this beautiful, unique story that at its core seeks to uplift the next generation of young LGBTQ+ people. Stay tuned!”
In Season 1, which covers the first two volumes of the graphic novel, we watch as Nick and Charlie’s friendship blossoms into the most wholesome relationship, as they make snow angels and kiss in the rain. Viewers are also introduced to their friends Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao), as well as school lesbian icons Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell). Now that the show isn’t sashaying away, what can we expect from the next two seasons? Although the premise has yet to be revealed, we’re certain there will be more heart-stopping moments, as well as a new playlist to keep on repeat. In the meantime, turn up a Sir Babygirl song and crush all over again on Nick and Charlie’s cutest scenes.
