Tactics Avoid Iraq Missiles

A former senior commander in Iraq's air defense service says he personally distributed hundreds of shoulder-fired missiles in Baghdad shortly before the city's fall to U.S.-led forces. In response to increasing surface-to-air missile fire, U.S. helicopter pilots are adopting new tactics to avoid being hit by Iraqi insurgents. NPR's Ivan Watson reports.

A pickup in the economy seems to be helping President Bush's popularity, but the situation in Iraq is an increasing concern among likely voters in the 2004 presidential election, according to a new poll for NPR. Muhammad Jury Recommends Death

A Virginia Beach, Va., jury recommends the death sentence for John Allen Muhammad, who was convicted last week of two capital murder charges in connection with last year's Washington, D.C.-area sniper shootings. The jury's recommendation is not final, and the trial judge can choose to commute the sentence to life in prison without parole, although such action is rarely taken. Hear NPR's Brian Naylor.

Schwarzenegger Tackles Budget
