If you've always been devoted to bikinis and haven't worn a one-piece since your Speedo days, it can be daunting to return to a fuller coverage swimsuit, especially if you don't know what to look for.

It can sometimes seem easier to buy a bikini, since you can choose separate sizes for your top and bottom.

But according to the Data But Make it Fashion Instagram account, one-piece bathing suits are more popular than ever this summer, as celebrities like Sofia Vergara, Hailey Bieber, and Margot Robbie prove they can be flirty and fun.

FEMAIL spoke to swimwear experts about what to look for to find the most flattering fit, no matter what body type you have.

Whether you have a long torso, a narrow ribcage, or are looking for a little more coverage, these are the best tips to guarantee the perfect pull-on.

Data But Make it fashion reported that one-piece swimsuits are 24 per cent more popular than bikinis according to data aggregated by the Instagram account creator, which was compiled by pulling online articles and posts as well as a sentiment analysis to compare the popularity.

Commenters had much to say about the trend - and why it's happening, with some musing it's because Sabrina Carpenter has been rocking the retro style in her Espresso music video and on the Vogue runway.

One woman wrote that they weren't surprised because 'bathing suit brands continue to make the bottoms so much smaller than they need to be, and no one thinks about curves or body shapes - they think of models. One pieces are easier and provide more coverage - a win.'

'This is like when high-waisted jeans were first introduced. The RELIEF,' another woman wrote.

Others talked about the issues they had wearing one-pieces, as one woman joked, 'Crying in long torso.'

'It's because these are not our mama's one pieces. They are so cute now! Thong styles, cut outs, etc. The one pieces are SERVING,' another comment read, praising the different options available.

Jennifer Waycott and Kim Truman of Portland, Oregon-based swimwear company Jantzen confirmed to FEMAIL that there has been 'a noticeable trend in women opting for one-piece swimwear' and they've 'seen this trend grow over the last few years.'

What if you have a long torso?

The 'crying in long torso' response isn't exactly overboard - it can be exceedingly difficult to find a one-piece that fits if you have a long torso, but luckily, there are options

The 'crying in long torso' response isn't exactly overboard - it can be exceedingly difficult to find a one-piece that fits if you have a long torso, but luckily, there are options.

New York-based Kristina Guilmain is one of the lead design directors at Swimsuits For All, which focuses on finding women the perfect fit for their body type.

Kristina told DailyMail.com if a woman has a long torso, they need to always look for adjustable straps to lengthen or shorten the suit for a customized fit.

Sydney, Australia-based Dessy Hairis, the founder and CEO of Bydee, agreed that 'women with long torsos should look for one-pieces with adjustable straps and high leg lines.'

Dessy, whose brand was recently worn by TikTok superstar Alix Earle, said they typically recommend customers with long torsos size up to guarantee a more comfortable fit.

What if you want more coverage on the bottom?

Many one-pieces are a bit more conservative than bikinis, especially if you look for adjustable offerings

One of the major complaints with bikinis was that many brands are only offering cheeky styles or thongs.

But many one-pieces are a bit more conservative, especially if you look for adjustable offerings.

If a woman wants more coverage on the bottom, Kristina suggests 'adjustable side leg features on the Swimsuits For All styles for a customizable coverage.'

'A woman should look for swimsuits specifically labeled as full coverage or modes coverage,' Jennifer and Kim said.

'These are designed to provide additional fabric and coverage around the hips and buttocks,' the Jantzen team advised. 'Skirted bottoms offer the most coverage while covering problematic areas.'

And skirts aren't dated - just look at the Please Please Please singer for proof they can be done in an updated, chic way.

What if you have a bigger bust and narrow ribcage?

Another issue when it comes to finding a well-fitting one-piece is when women have a big bust but a narrow ribcage, which can make it difficult to find something that's flattering

Another issue when it comes to finding a well-fitting one-piece is when women have a big bust but a narrow ribcage, which can make it difficult to find something that's flattering and not too small.

Kristina said ladies need to look for 'under-bust bands and cinched waist detail, either seamed or color-blocked look great on bigger busted, smaller bra band body types.'

'Our Tulum one-piece is perfect for women with a bigger bust and a narrow ribcage, which is exactly why we designed it,' Dessy suggested.

'The underwire offers great support while the tie-up back allows adjustability for larger busts to feel supported,' Dessy explained.

The Jantzen team recommends swimsuits with adjustable straps for support, side boning that can help keep the swimsuit in place, shirring for camouflaging, and underwire for shape and support.

So in this case, a Speedo style pull-on just isn't going to work.

How can you guarantee a great fit?

'Since no two bodies are the same, it's important that your swimwear provides various levels of adjustability,' Dessy said

When it comes to buying a one-piece, adjustability is key, whether it's the straps, hooks, or even ties on the bottoms for a truly customized fit.

Even a halter can provide a bit more lift.

'Since no two bodies are the same, it's important that your swimwear provides various levels of adjustability,' Dessy said.

'It's always best for people to measure themselves to find the most accurate size in a one-piece swimsuit,' Jennifer and Kim said.

'Taking proper measurements and comparing them to a size chart will guarantee a better fit every time.'
