This special issue explores modern applications of the theory of nuclear matter in neutron stars and focuses on proposed ideas to constrain the equation of state of both cold and hot nuclear matter (low/high densities). The special issue mainly covers observational data from radio pulsars, X-ray sources, gamma-ray burst sources, and the detection of gravitational waves originating from neutron star mergers. Guest edited by Prof. Dr. Charalampos Moustakidis of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). Access the free reprint: https://brnw.ch/21wLfXT #mdpi #openaccess #neutron #stars #research

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jacob Lorenzo-Morales has been appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of the Section “Parasitic Pathogens” in Pathogens MDPI (ISSN: 2076-0817). A senior researcher at the University Institute of Tropical Diseases and Public Health, Dr. Jacob Lorenzo-Morales has been working on free-living amoebae (FLA) for the last ten years, with his main research field being on the Acanthamoeba genus, trying to identify potential targets using siRNA to develop novel therapeutic approaches against this pathogen. Physical activity has been named the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality. Here we explore The Every Walk You Take Initiative, where researchers from the UK, Spain and Canada have developed a mobile app which promotes physical exercise in specific age groups. The initiative used the mobile app to recommend healthy walking routes in Barcelona for specific age groups. The study, published in the open access journal Sustainability MDPI targeted individuals over the age of 55 who are at a higher risk of developing non-communicable diseases. The researchers explain that the initiative has the potential to be expanded to other countries aiming to reduce stress on healthcare systems and support sustainability. All articles in Clocks and Sleep (ISSN: 2624-5175) Vol 6, Issue 2, are now freely available to access, read and download: https://brnw.ch/21wL6te COVER STORY: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects sleep, mood, and fatigue, impeding daily functioning and recovery. TBI stems from various causes, leading to long-term health management needs. Light plays a crucial role in human health, regulating circadian rhythms. Morning light exposure advances circadian rhythms, leading to earlier bedtimes, enhanced alertness, and improved mood. This systematic review from the University of Sydney explores the efficacy of morning blue light and bright white light exposure in addressing sleep, mood, and fatigue challenges in TBI patients, building upon existing literature to provide valuable insights into potential interventions for this complex condition. Dissertations and theses are perhaps the most important works academics produce in their careers. They demonstrate the author’s mastery of their chosen field and separate the students from the scholars. As such, the language of such work must be flawless to ensure it is properly understood and coherent. Here, we take a look at the benefits of language editing for students and what is involved in the service. Learn more: https://brnw.ch/21wLdt9 #academicresource #scholarlypublishing #openscience

How is running good for our brains? An article published in Biomolecules MDPI analyses the neurological benefits of running. The review, cited in National Geographic, explores the current literature on the effect of running, and how the endorphins released play a role in neurogenesis – the development of new brain cells. They provide a review of the potential mechanisms involved in this process, including how beta-endorphins released interact with specific areas of the brain such as the hippocampus.
