Satisfying moment burglar receives instant karma while trying to rob self-storage facility as cops look on

  • The 34-year-old man had robbed several storage units to the tune of $20,000
  • Police eventually waited for him to come back and he was caught on video
  • He now faces several charges and was jailed following his arrest 

A man attempting to break into a Florida storage unit immediately got a taste of instant karma when he comically fell through the ceiling of another unit while trying to flee.

Tyvarius Tygwyan Stroud Mattison, 34, was eventually detained by police at SmartStop Self Storage in Homestead and charged with being a serial thief.

He was believed to have robbed the unit three times, stealing about $20,000 in sneakers, with one owner saying he stole tens of thousands in clothes and shoes.

'The way he left my unit, he was actually coming back for more,' said the victim. 'He was getting into it through the ceiling, using a dolly or cart as a stair and unscrewing the screws from the top.' 

Police waited for Stroud Mattison to return to case the joint again -- and when they spotted him, it was fairly easy to catch him.

Stroud Mattison was immediately confronted by the owner of the unit came back this past Thursday. 

He then tried get away through the ceilings of the various storage units as if navigating a maze before eventually falling through one, according to Local 10.

Stroud Mattison was captured on video with his legs dangling from the ceiling, caught dead to rights. 

One witness could even be heard exclaiming: 'What an idiot!' 

Police claimed that Stroud Mattison does legally rent a unit at the facility and had used his password to get inside.

Two other victims told the cops he'd gone after their units during his series of burglaries. 

He was taken to a local correctional facility on Friday before his initial appearance in court.

Stroud Mattison was officially charged with one count of second-degree grand theft, two counts of third-degree grand theft, three counts of burglary of an unoccupied structure and one count of resisting an officer without violence.

The judge ruling in the case in Miami-Dade County found probable cause and ordered him not to return to the storage facility. 

She ruled that if he has any legal possessions at SafeStorage, he's legally required to be accompanied by police. 

Stroud Mattison was also denied a lower bond rate because of the value of what he had stolen. 

He has a prior record for illegally attempting to sell cannabis and hallucinogens, according to the county
