Julie Chrisley's prison sentence for tax evasion is dramatically overturned

Julie Chrisley has been given a chance at a reduced prison sentence after the courts ordered a resentencing for her bank fraud and tax evasion convictions.

Chrisley, 51, received a prison sentence of seven years when she was convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion in 2022, alongside her husband 'Chrisley Knows Best' star Todd Chrisley, who received a 12-year sentence.

But on Friday, despite upholding the convictions, a three-judge panel from the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals decided to reevaluate Julie's sentencing.

Initially, Julie was found responsible for the fraud scheme dating back to 2006, however, the judge has now ruled that there is no evidence of her involvement before 2007, partially exonerating her from the conspiracy, The Sun reported.

Julie's case will now return to a lower court for resentencing, providing an opportunity for a potentially reduced prison term for her punishment over what the appellate panel called a 'narrow issue.'

'We're pleased that the Court agreed that Julie's sentence was improper, but we're obviously disappointed that it rejected Todd's appeal,' Alex Little, an attorney for the couple, said in an email message to the AP.

He said the Chrisley family was 'hopeful for more good news in the future.'

The reality star couple was found guilty in July 2022 of conspiring to defraud community banks out of more than $30 million in fraudulent loans.

The Chrisleys were also found guilty of tax evasion by hiding their earnings while showcasing an extravagant lifestyle.

Todd was sentenced to 12 years and wife Julie was given seven years behind bars, heading off to prison in January 2023.

The stars rose to fame thanks to their USA reality show Chrisley Knows Best, which premiered in 2014 and documented their day-to-day lives alongside their children.

It went on for nine seasons before it was recently canceled amid the scandal.

The disgraced duo are parents to Savannah, 26; Lindsie, 34; Chase, 27; Grayson, 17; and estranged son Kyle, 32.

In the series, Todd and Julie worked hard to portray the image of devoted parents and devout Christians.

But they saw their picture-perfect on-screen images ripped apart when it was brought to light that they had scammed the bank by submitting fake documents when applying for loans.

In addition, Todd's former business partner Mark Braddock shocked the world when he claimed that he had a gay love affair with the father-of-five during the trial - further shattering the reality star's long-cultivated reputation.

Todd and Julie are serving out their time at two separate facilities.

Todd is currently incarcerated in Pensacola, Florida. Meanwhile, Julie is banged up in Lexington, Kentucky.

Savannah has become and advocate for better prison conditions after her father recently spoke out about the horrific conditions at his Florida prison.
