American infuriates Britons as she attempts to make a 'proper' cup of tea for a Bridgerton party - with some saying they need 'therapy'

An American influencer has infuriated Britons after she attempted to make a 'proper' cup of tea - with some saying they need 'therapy' after watching her butcher the brew.

Kelsey Pomeroy, who is based in Kansas, took to her Instagram @kelsewhatelse to share a clip of herself attempting to make 'the perfect cup of British tea' to celebrate the new season of Netflix's Bridgerton.

However Kelsey raised a few eyebrows when she began mixing the cold water and milk in a pot first before boiling it into a frothy mixture.

Many rushed to the comments in horror, with one Brit saying: 'My eye is twitching with English rage.'

Speaking to her 178,000 followers, Kelsey said: 'I am an American learning how to make a proper cup of British tea because I'm throwing a high tea party in honour of the Bridgerton premiere.

'Internet told me to buy these teas, the PG Tips and the Yorkshire Gold. Someone said that the perfect way to prepare this tea is to boil the milk with the water first and then pour it on top of the tea and then add the sugar. But no, I'll put it in a pan.'

The mother went onto bewilder her British followers as she took to the stove, boiling a concoction of water and milk until it frothed.

Looking confused she asked: 'How hot am I supposed to boil? [Is it] a low and slow situation, or do I boil it hot and high? I don't know.'

The content creator then proceeded to steep a tea bag in a mug, pouring the milky mixture over it.

She added a spoonful of sugar and pondering the brewing time, she asked: 'One tea bag or two? I'm going to go with one, [this box] says brew for one to two minutes but I feel like the internet said at least three to four.

'Do I do one to two minutes or three to four minutes? ... I let the tea bag steep for three minutes.'

Reaching out for advice, she asked: 'If you know how to make a proper cup of British tea, what should I change and try differently? Should I have boiled it in the kettle? '

British social media users rushed to the comments to leave their thoughts on the butchered brew.

One person joked: 'Sending hate from the UK x', while another said: 'As a Brit I'm going to need an obscene about of therapy to get over the boiling milk.'

Someone else wrote: 'I think it’s funny you said you were gonna make a “proper cup” of tea and then almost instantly chose violence.'

A fourth said: 'WHO TF TOLD THIS WOMAN TO BOIL THE MILK.' Another joked: 'Genuinely think you may be banned from the UK for this.'
