A new docuseries is set to explore the bizarre and twisted tale of Thomas Randolph - the man who has been married six times with four of his wives mysteriously dying.

The Investigation Discovery series The Black Widower: The Six Wives of Thomas Randolph will stream on Max from July 16.

The episodes delve into whether Randolph is a calculated killer or simply unlucky - with each death leaving him without a wife but hundreds of dollars richer thanks to multiple life insurances policies paid out.

Nevada-native Randolph, now 69, earned his nickname the 'Black Widower' after his four wives died in eerie circumstances.

The trailer for the series shows Randolph in prison, talking about the death of his sixth wife, Sharon Causse, who was shot to death in a staged home invasion in 2008.

In the 2017 trail, prosecutors accused him of arranging for his friend and handyman Michael Miller to kill her in what would've appeared to have been a home invasion, in order to collect more than $300,000 in life insurance payouts.

Randolph, who maintains his innocence in the circumstances surrounding Causse's death, retells the night his sixth wife was murdered in the short trailer.

'Let's start with Sharon,' he begins. 'Okay nice dinner for Mother's Day and she says "let's go home and have sex."'

He continues: 'Everything we did was compatible - best sex ever, best grandma...'

It then cuts to a 911 call that Randolph makes, reporting his wife's death and a news story reporting a woman and the apparent masked and armed burglar had been shot.

'What version of event is the truth?' someone asks, spliced with clips from Randolph's daughter admitting she doesn't know if her father is innocent or not along with interviews from the victims' families and legal analysts.

Causse died in May 2008 after Miller, masked and armed, broke into Randolph's house in Nevada and shot her dead.

Randolph was convicted for a second time for the death of Causse and the hitman, Michael Miller, he hired to murder her.

He was retrialed after the state's Supreme Court ruled a retrial was needed arguing the 2017 jury never should have heard evidence about the 1986 death of Randolph's second wife, Becky Gault, in Utah.

Randolph was originally sentenced to the death, but it was overturned in 2020.

Juries in both the 2017 and 2023 trials heard evidence from and about several of his ex-wives, which painted a picture of a violent, abusive and manipulative man who had a pattern of marrying, then abusing women.

Kathryn Thomas

Randolph married his first wife in 1975 when she was just 18 years old and he was 20.

During Randolph's first trial, Thomas, who divorced him in 1983, told jurors that he was a controlling, manipulative and psychologically abusive person.

She revealed an incident when he threw a bowl of oatmeal at the wall because it didn't have sugar on it.

After remarrying, she and her new husband reportedly moved several states away to Washington to get some distance between themselves and Randolph.

Becky Gault

Prosecutors told jurors Gault was found dead with a bullet in her skull in the home she shared with Randolph just three years after she married him.

The couple got married on the same day in 1983 when his divorce with Kathryn Thomas was finalized.

Randolph received a $500,000 life insurance payout after her death was initially ruled a suicide.

He was later charged, and acquitted, for her murder after cops discovered he used to sing songs about murdering her.

Randolph also tried to hire a hitman to kill her, who ended up being a police officer.

While Randolph pleaded guilty to witness tampering, he was never convicted of her murder.

Randolph's third wife told jurors at his first trial she believes that Randolph tried to kill her in an attempted shooting.

She revealed when they were married, Randolph shot at her while cleaning his gun.

The bullet left a hole in their kitchen, and she believed her life was in danger after that.

Thomas died in the hospital in 2004 following botched heart surgery, a witness, Glen Morrison, told jurors he was asked by Randolph to kill her and to stage the crime scene as a robbery, in a similar way to how his then-future wife Sharon Causse died.

Thomas' daughter was allegedly not allowed to visit her mother while she was sick.

On top of this, Randolph reportedly cremated his wife's body less than 24 hours after she died.

While he was married to Leona Stapleton, his fifth wife, there is little public knowledge about her. Her family told the court during his first trial that she had died of cancer.
