Ricky Martin Reveals His Daily Skin-Care and Wellness Routine

Transcript

[calm intro music]

Hello everyone, this is Ricky Martin

and today I'm going to be sharing

with you my daily skincare and wellness routine.

Let's start with breakfast.

This is all I have for breakfast.

I'm only kidding.

So this is just immune booster, I think it's important.

Remember, I'm a father of four, my life is very fast,

so this is lemon, honey, red onion, garlic,

little bit of salt, and it's just one shot, check this out.

[exhales] Yes, ready [claps hands] for the day, let's go.

So my first beauty secret is Alkaline water.

Alkaline water, this is very important.

Believe it or not, a lot of people ask me,

Ricky, how do you take care of your voice?

I mean, you're a singer.

My singing coach tells me, When you come to class,

I need you to have a glass of ice with water.

Alkaline is really good

because it's filled with electrolytes.

So this is my favorite one [smacks lips on bottle].

Let's start with my skincare.

Life is crazy, hectic, and you need to be practical.

Rose water, spray it all over, it's really good,

and I tell you why, it sets the atmosphere, smells so good,

just give it a try and not too much because my next step

Kumiko Matcha soap, it's a dry soap, it's very simple.

Matcha is super antioxidant,

you just put it in your fingers, just go to that,

and it moisturizes and all you want to do is just leave

with it on, bye, see you later.

No, I'm just kidding.

I am a beach bum, I grew up in an island [laughs].

It is very important to feel nature as it is

but you know what?

I've also been working since I'm 12 years old.

So I have my days or my months

where I'm really obsessed with my skin

and then I forget because I'm in the ocean

and that's wrong, it's all wrong.

So imagine when you're 12 years old

when you spend hours in front of a camera with makeup,

when you kick puberty, as it is, life is so complicated,

your skin gets crazy and if you add makeup to that equation,

it's just really horrible.

So I really had a lot of issues.

Eventually I started, I had to start taking care

of myself, not religiously.

Eventually it became better in the sense that I,

I started enjoying taking care of myself,

taking care of my skin, and this is where I'm at today.

I am going to wash it off with water

and now my next very important step,

believe it or not is ice, ice is my best friend.

It's stimulates circulation.

Circulation is oxygen.

Look, I have rosy cheeks now.

For many years in my life,

life was so crazy being on the road

and I was so overwhelmed with what was happening in my life.

I started traveling on my own.

I went to India, I found meditation,

I went deep into meditation and it was my salvation

to be honest.

So now with four kids,

I'm not going to India as much as I would like to.

So what I do is that I wake up early in the morning,

I would say at 5:30, 6:00,

before all the babies wake up and I find silence.

Silence is what's really keeping me grounded.

I found this meditation it's called Headspace.

Guided meditation is doing a lot for me to be honest.

I wish I could be in lotus position for three hours a day,

it's not the case, but 15, 20 minutes, half an hour,

it really makes a difference.

So obviously everybody needs a toner,

who doesn't love a good toner.

Your face, it feels really wet

but that's the way it should be,

and in the meantime, Aesop is awesome.

It's important to be balanced about everything,

cause you imagine you have a great face,

but wrinkly arms and chest, that's not what you want.

And believe it or not, for a long time,

I had really high cholesterol

and then I was using this medication

that was helping my cholesterol

but it was activating the enzymes of my liver

and I went to the doctor again,

so now you're gonna give me something

that will fix my liver,

but will harm something else in my body?

So I went full on vegetarian

and three months after I went full on vegetarian,

I went back to my doctor and he said, What are you doing?

You're doing something, I'm telling you the medicine

that I'm giving you is helping.

And I'm like [chuckles],

Not really, I'm not drinking your medication.

I went full on vegetarian

and it's really, really helping me.

This is magic in a bottle.

You put a little bit of it, you shake it,

and I use a whole lot Ampoule,

but everybody says, That's too much.

No, it's not too much.

If it's about taking care of yourself is not too much

but what this does is that it stimulates collagen.

You can use on your neck.

My mom's swears by this, I am not kidding,

since my mom started using this product, she says,

I don't feel like using makeup,

I don't think I need makeup anymore.

And then my brother who doesn't take care of himself,

he said, What is this?

I like how it feels when I do this.

And what I like about this

once again is that it stimulates collagen

and I'm telling you, your wrinkles disappear.

You see these wrinkles here, I love, they're manly,

but it kind of helps, it's really good.

I have a lot of friends that go like,

Yo, I don't take care of myself, you know I'm a surfer,

I don't do that, my thing is the sun,

and then all of a sudden they're hiding

to do these kind of things because it's about self-love,

it's sexy to take care of yourself.

Isn't it?

And then a little extra love for eye,

you always have to have some love for the eyes.

So you just, you just go like that,

especially for those long, long flights.

Yes, I do, I do sit there and I just pat my eyes.

My kids make fun of me but I don't care.

They always make fun of me anyways.

And of course you have to have a serum,

always, you have to have a serum.

So this is Kiehl's

and then one of us first things

that I learned was moisturizer.

You have to have moisturizer after spending 20 hours

with makeup, you go home, you wash your face,

you have to have moisturizer, so this is Matcha,

once again, we go to Kumiko.

Antioxidants, we need this all the time.

Even when I didn't really have a routine,

moisturize was a thing that kind of like saved my life.

I say saved my life or my skin.

I'm telling you, I had really bad moments with my skin.

My Mom always told me, It doesn't matter what you do,

please use moisturizer.

She still does.

My mom has the most beautiful skin.

You kidding me, she's perfect.

Mommy, you're perfect, I love you.

So obviously we'll have to have sunscreen.

I'm gonna be really honest,

it's not that I use sunscreen my entire life,

but it is so important.

It's time to grow up, you need sunscreen.

We are so exposed to the sun,

so what I use is Keihl's, and this is 30 SPF.

Remember it doesn't matter what type of skin you have,

wear sun block.

Facial mist, always important, M61,

you have to have this with you at all times.

It's just really good.

You do it all day with your moisturizer,

it just makes you feel better, it makes you feel better.

So now let's go into hair.

What do I do with hair?

You see this right here?

It looks like a hairspray, it is a hairspray,

but it's natural, it's just sea salt.

I'm gonna go on the road in September

with Enrique Iglesias

and I'm gonna need 20 bottles of these.

Bottles, how about cases?

Come on, that's it,

because at the end of the day,

it just works for one song, the first song,

because by the second song,

I'm drenched in sweat and just go like that.

So obviously you have to smell, come on,

you have to smell good.

That's so freaking important.

This is my key to success.

Men, women, they just love it.

I walk into a room and people go, What are you wearing?

So for me, sharing this with you is kind of like therapy

for me to be honest, it's about going back in time

and remember that time and place where I was not happy

with myself or that I was not happy

with what was happening in my life.

I was very successful, I was going around the world

with music and everything, but I wasn't that happy.

So today I just talked to you about the things that I do.

Little details that make me feel better about who I am.

So it's about taking care of myself, me first,

and if you take care of yourself first,

then you can take care of the rest.

This is very simple.

You first, you second, you third.

Thank you so much for watching.

I got to go to the studio, there's some music to be done.

Bye, bye, see ya.
